I've been seeing some remixes of this CLA spot from last year on TV recently, which is fine by me because there are some incredible cars in this montage even if the CLA is kind of a poopy thing to end on. But it has me curious - how to they frame and lock an identical shot for every car with no visible gear? Is there a rig they remove in post? Are the backgrounds real or are they driving in front of a green screen of some kind?

At least a portion of that was done with CG.

Otherwise they would have a chase vehicle along side it with a camera on it. No reason for a Rig attachment to the actual vehicle for this.

They certainly can remove a roof mounted rig in post but like I said, at this angle, passenger side profile, there's no reason to when you can have a film vehicle drive right along side it.

I definitely saw CG in there though (and no I'm not just talking about the Forza clip haha)

Oh yeah, the F1 car or whatever near the end was totally fake, and I'm not sure about the forest behind the Gullwing either. But how does the camera stay locked to the car body if it's on a chase vehicle? It moves with up and down exactly in line with how the road is affecting the suspension of the target car and doesn't have any horizontal movement. Are the chase drivers just that good?

I don't think it's bouncing with the vehicle as much as you think it is. I think they're just pacing it along side. Lots of CG though after watching it a 2nd time.

You'd be surprised how much they can do after it's shot though.

Huge oversight, though I'm just thankful the Red Pig had a moment in the sun.
